THE WATERFRONT’S SUSIE PARRISH WINS 2003 LPGA AWARD
Smith Mountain Lake, VA (January 12, 2004) The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) announced its five 2003 award winners. For A Cure’s Susie Parrish has won the LPGA Komen Award Presented by Yoplait.
The LGPA Komen Award Presented by Yoplait is given to the person or organization that sets an example for others by making an outstanding contribution through personal or professional efforts via the game of golf to generate national and local support for breast cancer research, education and efforts to eradicate the disease. The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation has been the official national charity of the LPGA since 1992.
According to Ty M. Votaw, LGPA Commissioner, “I couldn’t be more proud of our 2003 award winners…all five of these recipients represent all that is good about the game of golf and are example of how the sport can make a difference in people’s lives. From Annika taking on the men on the PGA Tour to Susie Parrish raising funds for breast cancer research, they have all inspired, excited, motivated and touched the lives of thousands of people and should be proud of their accomplishments. I would like to offer my heartfelt congratulations and thanks for each of these five talented and special women.”
Susie Parrish was chosen for the award for her contribution to raising funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. Parrish, a two-time breast cancer survivor, coordinates a pro-am at The Waterfront Golf Club in Moneta, Virginia, that has raised more than $80,000, for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. An ambassador for Rally For A Cure since 1996, Parrish founded the pro-am seven years ago. She is only the second individual to receive the prestigious award, joining LPGA Tour veteran Val Skinner, who won in 1999.
