The companies are involved in building, developing, marketing and managing country clubs. The Company is also affiliated with Smith Mountain Building Supply, LLC. Nearly 250 people are employed by The Willard Companies.
Ronald L. Willard is President of The Willard Companies. Willard started his construction company in 1973. The Willard Companies has since transformed Smith Mountain Lake from a sleepy rural valley into a resort area that attracts people from across the country to enjoy golf, recreation, and resort living.

Today, The Willard Companies employs more than 200 people.
Willard is an active member and serves a number a variety of regional, state and national organizations including the Ferrum College Board of Directors, the Business Council / Roanoke Economic Development Partnership, W. E. Skelton 4-H Center Board of Directors, Past-President of the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce and is a Lifetime Director with the National Association Homebuilders to name a few.
Willard, a native of Franklin County, grew up in the area and has spent much of his time giving back to the community and its residents by donating his time and money to many philanthropic events around the region. He prides himself in going the extra mile for the residents of his communities and his employees. Willard has three children, four grandchildren and lives in The Water’s Edge Community with his wife, Kris.
